It is the MDs´ responsibility to lead the medical team and take care of all medical emergencies of the crew and the guests.
Please note that this is a volunteer/unpaid position.
Responsibilities
The medical team on board consists on a medical doctor and a nurse/midwife.
The MD is responsible for the stockings of the ship’s pharmacy, maintains the inventory updated registering consumption and is responsible for handling the narcotics.
During a rescue, the medical doctor is in close contact with the head of mission to response to the medical cases. The MD logs and documents every emergency and treatment of everyone on board.
Upon disembarkation the MD writes a medical report for health authorities and internal records; at the end of the mission the MD hands over an updated inventory to place the replenishment orders.
The MD is responsible for the communication with medical authorities on shore, in coordination with the Head of Mission.
Requirements
Relevant medical experience.
Experience in handling complex emergency situations (i.e. mass-casualty incidents) is a strong plus.
Fluent in English. French is a plus.
Skills
Strong motivation and commitment towards ResQ’s core objectives.
Ability to work and live in a diverse team of 21 persons.
High flexibility and spirit of adaptability. Willingness to take part in the daily life of the ship.
Previous experience with humanitarian aid work and/or SAR vessels is a strong plus.
